CARE AND MAINTANANCE
IRONWOOD TIMBER is a low maintenance timber. In a fully
protected environment we recommend re-oiling Ironwood
timber twice a year. In cases where you’re setting is fully
exposed to the elements we recommend re-oiling three to
four times a year with an oil which contains in-built UV
protection. To minimise the level of maintenance required for
timber furniture in positions of full exposure to the elements,
a furniture cover is recommended.
Ironwood timber once assembled, and oiled, will go through
a settling period. The timber will change from a pale amber
colour to a deep reddish brown colour that enhances the
look of the product. This is a natural occurrence of this
timber and does not take place due to staining. It is
recommended that only clear oil is used on the furniture
which contains in-built UV protection.
Ironwood Care & Maintenance.
Please read carefully before assembly and use. Failure to do so may result in warranty being null and void.
Congratulations on your purchase of this Ironwood Outdoor Furniture Setting.
All timber furniture including Ironwood will go through a settling period. During this period small hairline cracks and minor timber movement will take place; this is a part of the drying process of this particular timber species. This will occur in the early life of your setting but will not deter from the overall durability of your product. This is a common occurrence for all
timbers once placed outdoors.
Note: If Ironwood is neglected with prolonged exposure to the elements this will cause the timber to discolour to a silvery grey, in the event your setting does discolour, to restore th timber sanding and oiling may be required.
As all timber goes through a settling period, fasteners must be tightened regularly. Do not leave fasteners un-tightened as this could cause furniture damage.
Oiling and Maintenance Process
NOTE: Your furniture has been factory treated with a wood preservative prior to delivery.
Step 1. We recommend that after assembly and before oil treatment, thoroughly wipe clean your furniture underneath and on top, removing all dirt and sawdust particles from all mortise joints and grooves using a brush and rag.
Step 2. All furniture is to be completely covered and sealed both underneath and on top of the setting with a light coat of hardwood timber preservative. Make sure the oil penetrates into all grooves and mortise joints.
Step 3. After oiling wipe off any excess oil, then allow the oil to dry for (4hrs). After oil has dried we recommend that you once again remove any excess oil that may not have penetrated into the timber. Repeat this process if necessary.
Note: Excess oil left on timber surfaces, can in some cases cause white streaks across the timber face after your setting is exposed to rain or water. If this occurs sanding and application of methylated spirits by rag will be required. Do not oil the furniture late in the day when dew or condensation is likely to form or when rain is threatening. The frequency of oiling
will vary according to the climatic conditions in your area and direct exposure to the elements.
We recommend the furniture to be stored with undercover protection during winter and wet season.
Warning: Staining on Tuscan or light coloured pavers may occur from dust/oil residue if the timber is not cleaned properly and weathered correctly. Hose down your furniture and clean thoroughly before placing furniture on light coloured pavers
